Our Mission
Chicago Animal Shelter Transport, or CAST, provides transportation for animals on behalf of rescue groups, shelters and other charitable organizations. We take animals to the homes and services they need to live, sometimes saving lives at the last possible moment.

CAST works with dedicated volunteers and rescue groups to bring animals from overcrowded shelters to no-kill facilities, foster homes and veterinary services. CAST fills the critical gap between the city and county shelters and organized rescue organizations.

When a rescue group can take in a litter of puppies, a three-legged German Shepherd, or a traumatized pitbull, but can't reach the shelter in time -- that is when CAST steps in to save a life.
We're Going the Distance
As of June 2024, Chicago Animal Shelter Transport has over 40,000 miles on our odometer and we are not done yet!
Creatures Great and Small
Do we limit ourselves to cats and dogs? We do not! Roosters, rabbits, chickens, parrots, parakeets - if they need to get to a safe place, we take them. Almost 1,000 animals rode with CAST to health and safety.
Why We Do This
Picture a dog in a shelter cage with a 7 pm deadline. Yes, that kind of deadline. There's a foster family willing to care for that dog, but they can't reach the shelter by 7 pm. What do you do? What do you do?
Help!
There are many things you can do for these at-risk animals:
DONATE to support gas money, mileage, wear-and-tear on vehicles.
SPONSOR promotional materials: stickers, magnets, T-shirts, whatever we can create!
SCHMOOP the transports by donating portable water bottles, food, treats, blankets and towels for the rides.
HOST a happy hour, house party, picnic, coffee meet-up or any sort of gathering to learn more about CAST and its transports.
