We get rescue animals where they need to be
Chicago and the surrounding suburbs have rescues taking in animals from the streets, abusive homes and overcrowded shelters, but have you ever thought about how the animals get from the city and county shelters to the help they need?
It's a matter of hours to get an animal out of an overcrowded shelter.
It's a matter of minutes to get an animal into a vet for lifesaving surgery.
Sounds dramatic, right?
Well, it can be.
Chicago Animal Shelter Transport (CAST) formed from those minutes and hours animals need to get to medical care and safe shelter. Rescue organizations may not arrive in time to save a dog from euthanasia, or bring a cat to a vet for surgery before the office closes for the weekend. A foster may not have a car to pick up the puppies found on the street, or to take them for an exam.
Should an animal be put down because no one can get there in time?
We don't think so.
Like a superhero leaping into action, we hop into the CASTmobile to pick up that dog, cat, rabbit, chicken and take it to a safe place for care and rest. We partner with rescue organizations to transfer animals, sometimes driving for hundreds of miles to get to a willing foster or vet.
